Getting started
Which devices does PumpDash work with?
PumpDash is built and tested with a Tandem Mobi* insulin pump, read through Tandem Source*. Glucose comes from the CGM readings the pump uploads to Tandem Source*, so there is no separate CGM account to connect.
Do I need Sugarmate?
Strongly recommended. Sugarmate by Tandem* is Tandem's* own free app. With it installed on the phone paired with the pump and connected to Tandem Source*, the pump uploads about every 5 minutes instead of about once an hour. Glucose arrives with those uploads, so Sugarmate is what keeps both glucose and pump data fresh. The install guide walks through it.
Which Tandem* account should I sign in with?
The same login you use for Tandem Source*. On iPhone and Android you sign in on Tandem's* own page, so PumpDash never sees that password.
Can I try it before connecting anything?
Yes. Demo Mode shows a simulated day of data with no accounts and no network. On the phone it's under Settings > Demo Mode, and a DEMO bar stays on screen until you turn it off.
What screen should I use for a desk display?
The desktop layout is designed for a small 1280×400 bar display, about 7 to 8 inches, that sits under a regular monitor. It works in any window size on Windows or a Mac, too.
Data and accuracy
How often does it update?
Glucose and pump data arrive together when the pump uploads to Tandem Source*, bringing its CGM readings with it: about once an hour on its own, or about every 5 minutes, give or take a few, with Sugarmate by Tandem* connected to Tandem Source*. PumpDash learns your pump's rhythm and checks right when the next upload is due.
What does EST. mean?
Between uploads, PumpDash projects insulin on board and insulin remaining forward so the screen stays useful. Those values are labeled as estimates and snap back to the pump's own numbers as soon as fresh data arrives. Estimates can be wrong.
Why is a value dimmed, amber, or showing a dash?
That's PumpDash telling you the data is old or missing. CGM readings are marked stale after 12 minutes and pump values dim after 90. Anything unknown shows as a dash, never as zero.
Can I use PumpDash to decide on insulin doses?
No. PumpDash is not a medical device. Use your pump, CGM, meter, the official manufacturer apps and your healthcare team for dosing and treatment decisions.
Can PumpDash change pump settings or deliver insulin?
No. PumpDash is read-only. There is no code path that sends anything to the pump.
Does it support mmol/L?
The iPhone and Android apps show mg/dL or mmol/L. The desktop app shows mg/dL.
Privacy and security
Where does my data go?
Straight from Tandem Source* to your own device, and nowhere else. There is no PumpDash server, no analytics and no crash reporting.
Where are my passwords stored?
In your operating system's secure storage: Windows Credential Manager or the macOS Keychain on desktop, the Keychain on iPhone, and Keystore-encrypted storage on Android. Never in a plain file.
Troubleshooting
The pump data says Late.
The pump hasn't uploaded to Tandem Source* when expected, usually because the pump user's phone is out of range of the pump or offline. PumpDash stays up to date as long as the Tandem Mobi* app is running on that phone, keeps checking on its own, and updates as soon as the next upload lands.
Is PumpDash made by Tandem*?
No. PumpDash is an independent app made by Hopes Tinkery LLC. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or approved by Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc.* Tandem* product names appear only to describe which devices and services PumpDash works with.
Still stuck?
Email us. A real person answers.
Tell us which app you're using (Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android), its version, and what you're seeing. A screenshot helps, taken in Demo Mode if you'd rather not share real numbers.
Reporting a bug? Never include passwords, tokens or medical records. The desktop app's logs redact secrets, so they're safe to attach.
